It was a beautiful spring day when friends gathered to enjoy a bike ride. A multitude of community members of all cycling levels joined Friends of the St. Clair River to ride the Bridge to Bay Trail for a 7.5 mile round-trip adventure from East China Park to Marine City High School. Road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes, even half-sized kids’ cruisers joined the fun and cycled through parks, over rivers, past wetlands and under a forested canopy.
To celebrate National Bike Month in May, Friends of the St. Clair River led a casual ride along Marysville’s Bridge To Bay Trail route. The round-trip ride was 6.5 miles and included portions of the trail completely separate from traffic and some shared shoulder lanes. Marysville is at the heart of the waterfront Bridge To Bay trail and has some of the best St Clair River views from River Road.
If you are looking for a shorter but interesting walk I would suggest starting at the Recor Road entrance to the China Township section and walk to the trailhead on Belle River Road . You first cross a stream on an old bridge and follow the paved trail as it winds thru woods and besides nurseries. At the end there is a bench to rest on before returning.
Palmer Park is a great place to relax on a summer day. We usually bring our lawn chairs and find a nice place on the grass in the shade to take in the view. On hot days there is usually a lot of boat traffic and if we are lucky we sometimes see a freighter. Although the freighters are pretty close to the shoreline, a pair of binoculars come in handy.
I spent a Saturday afternoon with my husband biking in Port Huron. We parked right under the Blue Water Bridge and rode our bikes north, through the neighborhoods to Lighthouse Park and Lakeside Park. The local neighborhood roads make for a very easy ride. It was late July and the waterfront was hopping. So many people and boats! Next time I think we will bring our bathing suits and spend some time at the beach after our ride.
I was visiting some friends for the weekend and we went for a bike ride in Marysville along the waterfront. We parked at Marysville City Park and rode our bikes along River Road. There were a lot of people out biking and families on the boardwalk. We even saw a freighter go by!
